Why Your Wedding Venue May Not Be Your Getting Ready Location

Many couples assume they’ll be able to get ready at their wedding venue, but that isn’t always the case. For many weddings in Long Island and NYC, venues only allow access one to two hours before the ceremony, which usually isn’t enough time for hair, makeup, getting dressed, and photos.

This is very common and not something most couples are told early in the planning process.

Wedding venues often have tight schedules, especially if they host multiple events in one day. Because of this, early access may be limited, and getting ready on site may not be allowed. These policies are usually based on logistics, not preference.

Hair and makeup typically require several hours, particularly when brides are getting ready with family members or a bridal party. When venue access is limited, services can feel rushed, and important moments like getting dressed or taking photos can feel stressful.

For this reason, many brides choose to get ready at a separate location, such as a hotel suite, an Airbnb, or a nearby home. Starting the day in a dedicated getting ready space allows hair and makeup to begin earlier and helps the timeline flow more smoothly.

While getting ready at the venue sounds convenient, it isn’t always practical. Planning a separate getting ready location is often the best way to ensure a relaxed wedding morning and a positive beauty experience.
